Founded in 1978 by two brothers, Richard and Sam Short, Short Brothers Construction Company, Inc. was incorporated as an Illinois corporation the following year. Having been in business in Marion, IL for over 30 years, the Company is one of its oldest continuously operating businesses, and its purchases and payroll have a significant impact on the area's economy. Short Brothers, as it is commonly known, enjoys a solid reputation throughout the area for providing high quality asphalt, asphalt paving services, earth moving construction services and related services at a fair price.
In addition to the products and services it provides through direct contracts, the Company serves as a subcontractor to numerous general contractors, and has provided asphalt paving for such recognizable customers as the City of Marion, City of Herrin, Village of Carterville, Village of Crainville, County of Williamson, State of Illinois, Wal-Mart, Pepsi-Cola, Menards, Rent One Ballpark and Cracker Barrel.
In 2009 the Company began an extensive overhaul of its asphalt plant to allow the Company to "Go Green" by utilizing reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) in its asphalt manufacturing process.
